William Warren Buerkle – Where It All Began

William Warren Buerkle born on June 30th, 1920 to immigrant parents in Cincinnati OH. He graduated from Ohio’s Wesleyan University in 1938 and soon after initiated his career in the automotive industry. He worked for AC Delco as a Cost Accountant and then for Buick as a District Sales representative until 1953, when he purchased his first dealership in Fairmont Minnesota.

Four short years later, he moved to the Twin Cities where he purchased St. Paul's Buick, then located on Sibley Ave. in downtown St. Paul.

Ever the visionary, Bill moved the franchise out to the white Bear Lake location in 1969. The sprawling site offered him just the space he needed to add the exciting new Japanese brand “Honda” in 1973. As the Honda brand grew, Bill Buerkle was ready to grow right along with it. In 1986, he and his family opened the Buerkle Acura store in Brooklyn Park.

Mr. “Bill” Buerkle will be remembered by all those privileged to know him as a dedicated, hardworking, smart minded businessman, who was fiercely loyal and committed to his people and his product; all qualities he seems to have passed along to his children David Buerkle and Mary Buerkle-Grant, currently run their father's company much the same way he did, after all, the highest and most endearing tribute a father can receive especially a founding father!
