What To Do at the Saint Paul Winter Carnival
The Saint Paul Winter Carnival in St. Paul, MN is one of the best parts of Minnesota in the winter! There are tons of snow-filled and fun activities and sights you won’t want to miss. What Day is the Winter Carnival?
The Winter Carnival runs from January 24th through February 3rd, 2019. Be sure to mark the date on your calendar, because you won’t want to miss the Winter Carnival Kickoff or the Moon Glow Parade on the 24th! The Vulcan Snow Park also opens that day, over at the Minnesota State Fair. Have you always wanted to see a coronation ceremony? The Winter Carnival Royal Coronation is on Friday, Jan 25th! That kickoff weekend also includes the King Boreas Grand Day Parade on Saturday, as well as the Kid’s Day at the Landmark Center. The famous Ice Carving Competitions also run during kickoff weekend, from Friday through Sunday, so be sure to check out the amazing ice sculptures being brought to life!
Best Events of the Carnival
You can check out a full calendar of events, but here are a few exciting days to mark on your calendar! The Fire & Ice 2019 Winter Carnival Art Show starts before the Carnival opening on Thursday Jan 10 and runs through the remainder of the Carnival, so you’ll have plenty of time to wander through amazing displays of original artwork on any day of the week. If you’re looking for some weekend fun, check out the 2019 Annual Queen’s Tea on the 20th, or the Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Competition on the 27th! Does your family love the parades best? Then don’t miss the Moon Glow Pedestrian Parade on Thursday, Jan 24th, or the King Boreas Grand Day Parade on Saturday the 26th!
Looking for a cool place to take a date in St. Paul, MN? This festival is an awesome choice, with tons of variety and lots of options for a romantic or lighthearted date. You can wander through the Vulcan Snow Park Snow Sculpture Viewing, or stay late to see the fantastic Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade & Fireworks on February 2nd. Most of the Winter Carnival events are free and open to the public, perfect for taking a tour of the best hits of the Carnival!
Family Fun at the Carnival
There are plenty of events for the whole family, too! Be sure to check out the Giant Snow Slide over in Vulcan Snow Park, where kids big and small can take a ride down the hill! This snow slide measures 16 feet high and more than 300 feet long, and it stays open, weather permitting, from the first Friday of the Carnival until the last Sunday. Scheduled hours are 5 to 9 pm on weekdays, 9 am to 9 pm on Saturdays, and 9 am to 7 pm on Sundays. No need to haul your own sled around: the Giant Snow Slide provides use of a sled in the $2 ride fee. You can choose to bring a non-perishable food item instead, for a free ride!
