Honda Reaches One Million Vehicles with Honda Sensing on U.S. Roads
Honda’s commitment to automated vehicle safety reached a new milestone this week, with one million vehicles with Honda Sensing on U.S. roads! Honda Sensing is applied on 69% of 2018 model-year vehicles, and still growing. A million Honda vehicles have left the dealership equipped with this comprehensive safety suite, and Honda has even more plans for safe, driver-assistive vehicles in the future.
Honda Sensing is a suite of safety features that makes your drive easier and safer every day. It’s more than just cruise control and a rearview camera. The Forward Collision Warning feature can detect vehicles in front of you, and give you audio and visual alerts if you get too close. If there is an unavoidable accident, Collision Mitigation Braking System can apply the brakes to help reduce the damage. Road Departure Mitigation is there to adjust your steering and braking if you unintentionally go across detected road lines.
There are also several driver-assist features included in Honda Sensing. Adaptive Cruise Control lets you set not only a travel speed, but also a set following distance from the car in front of you. When you hit traffic or a slowdown on the highway, your Honda will automatically reduce its speed to match. Then, once the road opens up again, Adaptive Cruise Control will bring you back up to your set speed. Honda Sensing also includes Lane Keeping Assist, which can help you keep your vehicle in the center of your lane. If it detects lane drifts that haven’t been indicated, it can help you out with steering.
Since 2016, Honda Sensing has doubled, and the carmaker hopes to continue making the roads safer in the future. “Honda dreams of a collision-free mobile society and the Honda Sensing technology has a crucial role to play in advancing us toward that goal,” said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of the American Honda Automobile Division & general manager of the Honda brand. “With the rapidly growing population of Honda vehicles applying these technologies, we hope to significantly reduce collisions involving Honda vehicles within the next three to four years.”
Honda Sensing now comes as standard equipment on several new 2018 Honda models. It comes standard on the 2018 Clarity Plug-in Hybrid, 2018 Clarity Fuel Cell, 2017 Clarity Electric, 2018 Accord, and the new 2018 Accord Hybrid. It’s also available on many more models, including the 2018 Honda Fit, Civic Sedan, Coupe and Hatchback, CR-V and Pilot SUVs, Odyssey minivan, and Ridgeline pickup. Honda plans to continue making this safety suite standard, starting with the upcoming 2019 Honda Insight. By 2022, Honda Sensing will be standard on every new 2022 Honda model-year vehicles.
