2018 Honda Fit Gets Performance Upgrades
The new 2018 Honda Fit boasts some excellent upgrades to its performance this year. Some of these upgrades aimed to fix some areas in which the previous Fit was underperforming, and help it stand out in the class. Overall, Honda brought the Fit back refreshed and ready to zip around your streets easily.
One of the Fit’s previous trouble areas was its tendency to bob around a bit. Subcompact hatchbacks like the Fit often exchange tight performance for headroom, so that passengers can be comfortable in these small cars. In the 2018 Honda Fit, Honda engineers managed to achieve both interior space and performance. They added braces around and under the body, supporting the chassis to give the Fit more structure. Honda also gave the Fit a solid steering-pinion and retuned the dampers. This served to enhance the steering and give the Fit a much more nimble feel overall.
As a result, the 2018 Honda Fit feels sturdy and focused on your drive. The improved chassis means that the body stays calm when you turn into tight, fast corners. The steering is precise and sharp, too, taking the Fit perfectly down the line you set for it. With the upgraded performance and enhanced composure, the new Fit offers a ride like a supple, calm sedan.
The new 2018 Honda Fit also manages to be more civilized on the road. Part of its upgrade included thicker acoustic materials inside the doors, wheel arches, and pillars. Honda also gave it layers of soundproofing materials in the dashboard and floor. An acoustically insulating windshield and thicker front quarter-windows help reduce wind noise at highway speeds. These refinements reduce the noise inside the Fit’s cabin, leaving you with a peaceful yet fun drive. Plus, Honda’s engineers managed to add all of this insulation without piling weight onto the little car, so it now boasts both sportiness and refinement!
The 2018 Honda Fit offers two different transmissions to go with the 1.5L inline-four engine. Honda’s CVT transmission comes standard on the top-of-the-line EX-L trim, but it’s available on the three lower trims as well. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual, which squeezes a tiny bit more power from the engine than the CVT. The manual Fit gives you 130 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque, while the automatic CVT offers 128 horsepower and 113 lb-ft of torque. For an even more enhanced drive, the 2018 Honda Fit Sport trim offers greater lateral grip and even better handling.
